Solihull is a large town in the West Midlands with a population of over 94,000. Solihull’s motto is “urbs in rure” (town in the country) and its vibrant shopping district and beautifully preserved Tudor architecture reflects just that. In recent years, the town has undergone much development, and its High Street has been pedestrianised since 1994. Solihull offers a large variety of shopping facilities both independent retailers and major brands. It has an open-air 1960s-style shopping centre called Mell Square, and in 2002 the large new shopping centre Touchwood was opened by the Queen. Many areas of this beautiful town are protected by legislative law as it is home to patches of ancient woodland and attractive parks. In 2013 uSwitch Quality of Life Index named Solihull the “best place to live” in the United Kingdom.
